Eastern Sierra Fishing

I just got back from a fishing trip in the June Lake Loop. My favorite fishing hole is Silver Lake. The current situation there has me both confused and angry. Every body of water in the loop is being stocked except Silver Lake. Heck, they’re stocking Rush Creek both above and below Silver. I’ve read about the goofie bird issue but it bothers me greatly that the DFG has chosen to ignore just one place in the area. I smell politics and/or revenge. I know that it’s hurting the concession owner greatly. Anyway, we didn’t catch a lot of fish while fishing Silver but what we caught was better than good. Most were in the 10’-12’ range and fat. I’ve been fishing that lake for 50 years and I’ve never caught so many brown trout. We caught 7 in a week. All were admired and gently returned to the lake to become, hopefully, breeders. It’s been the family policy to catch and release browns for over 20 years. I also caught a very nice brookie who also was returned to grow some more. We had one very pleasant afternoon fishing Rush Creek below Grant Lake. Nothing of any size but a lot of nice hits and a few small rainbows on barbless flies. All in all, a great trip since we were in the Sierras! Oh, and my oldest son and I did the Half Dome hike and climb. The best part about having done it is that I’ll never have to do it again!
